How did this happen? I thought... I thought I was in the championship...

—Shan

Shan (Korean: [rom. Syan]) was the original Running Man contender for the current games before getting kidnapped by Charming Gold and turning into his subordinates. She is the older sister of Liu.

As an outstanding inventor and champion of her Tribe, she was chosen to participate in the Running Man Championship[1] but was kidnapped by Charming Gold before entering the contest and became the pseudo-leader of the DV7, given the title "DV1".

Physical Description[]

Shan Season 2

Shan Headshot

Shan, like Liu, is a green grasshopper with purple eyes and brown hair.

Before becoming a DV7, Shan wore a dark brown skintight top with a metal orange cover that serves as a breastplate and matching baggy pants with a yellowish-brown color on her outer thigh. She also wears a pair of brown gloves with a yellowish brown color on her palms and a pair of black glasses.

Her DV7 outfit consists of the same attire with the only difference being her color palette being changed from brown and yellow to black and red, as well as the absence of her glasses.

During Season 2, she wears the same outfit that she did before becoming a DV7 with the exception of her glasses.

Background[]

Not much is known about her except for the fact that Shan grew up in the Bug tribe all her life until she was chosen to compete in the 100th Running Man Championship due to her role as a Champion before disappearing and getting presumed dead after Charming Gold kidnapped her[2].

Personality[]

As a DV7, Shan is a serious and quiet woman. Serving as Charming Gold's assistant, she doesn't speak much and the few times she does is when she's threatening others. Like the rest of the DV7, she doesn't work well with others and is better at working alone.

However in general, Shan, like the rest of the Bug Tribe, is a kind woman with a penchant for inventing. Being known as the best inventor in the Bug Tribe, her exceptional intelligence is shown through the creation of Mr. Suitcase. Though unlike Liu, she is shown to be more serious than him, most likely due to her role as being the 'big sister' and is shown giving the DV7 orders while the Running Men were fighting Manus. She is also shown to be selfless, willing to risk her safety to protect the Running Men when they appear to be in danger.

When it comes to her brother, she is shown to lower her walls, showing her more vulnerable side every time Liu is involved.

Abilities and Equipment[]

Abilities[]

  • Tactical Planning - Like Liu, Shan is shown to be a great tactician, successfully leading the Running Men and Makkhan through her plan into defeating Charming Gold.
  • Engineering - Shan is mentioned to be the greatest inventor of her tribe, her greatest invention being Mr. Suitcase, a sentient robot creature that acts as a portable storage compartment with a seemingly infinite amount of space.
  • Enhanced Leg Strength - Like her tribe, Shan has strong legs and is naturally capable of jumping great heights unreachable to the regular person. Her leg strength was shown prominently during her time as a DV7, where she was able to immobilize Miyo and Liu with one kick.
  • Danger Detection - Shan's antennas give her the ability to detect danger.
  • Reflexes - Shan is shown to have quick reflexes, speedily being able to dodge multiple attacks from others.

Equipment[]

Mr. Suitcase (Alternate)[]

Mr

A variation of Mr. Suitcase

  • A variation of Mr. Suitcase. This version appears to act almost the same as Shan's original invention but seems to be just as evil as Shan was when she was a DV7.

Gauntlet[]

Shan's Gauntlet

Shan's Gauntlet

  • A powerful invention, this gauntlet serves as Shan's main weapon throughout the second half of Season 1. The gauntlet has the ability to smash anything it slams into as well as hold back powerful attacks such as Charming Gold's bot. It is never used again during Season 2.

Relationships[]

Liu[]

Liu is Shan's little brother. Growing up together, they were naturally very close until Shan's presumed 'death', where she got brainwashed to be a DV7 and lost her memories of Liu due to the gas. Upon getting released from her brainwashing, she is confused to see Liu in the championships but later gets over it upon finding out of Charming Gold's plan[3].

She is shown to be quite protective and even motherly towards him, getting worried every time he gets hurt and then distraught at his near death from Ulcus' laser.[4] She is later shown to be panicked when Liu disappears from the area, demanding Mala for answers and then relieved when she sees Liu safe and well after the confrontation, immediately going to the arena to hug him before promptly scolding him for worrying her[5].

Once digesting the medicine, Shan and the others are revitalized, their strength coming back immediately. She assures Liu that she's going to be alright, thanks to her newfound energy and urges them to find the relics.
